Humans of Duke Sanford

“When I was living there, I always felt like China was a very heavily regulated country, and I thought learning about economic and financial policy may give me more knowledge about how to navigate it if I went back. After graduating from Sanford I am going back to China, and right now that’s more like driven by reality because frankly, the current policy regarding international students is not very friendly. It’s not an easy thing to stay here. In the lottery system you only have a certain chance you can stay, even if you have a job. I don’t want to go through that uncertainty. I don’t want to work so hard to find a job and then I don’t get a visa and I have to go somewhere else. I want to plan ahead, and trusting a lottery to stay in the US doesn’t seem like an ideal position to be in.” - Jinyi Zhang, MPP ‘19
