Humans of Duke Sanford

“It was titled the Constant Culture of Busyness on Campus. In my experience at Duke I’ve noticed that a lot of people just seem to be busy all the time and they love to talk about it and love to just do work. In my experience, people aren’t really that busy. We have this tendency to be half productive where we sit down for a couple hours and maybe read or do work or something, but then we’ll check Facebook or respond to emails. We don’t designate a specific sense of time to accomplishing academic things and because of that, I think our relationships suffer. I think we don’t necessarily do what we want to do all the time. We sleep less. I think the whole thing is problematic, and I don’t know why we do it. I think people want to be part of Duke culture and I think a lot of people are aware of it—but at the same time a lot of people aren’t.” - Matt Wisner, PPS ‘20 on his article in Thrive Global: https://www.thriveglobal.com/stories/48264-constant-busyness?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=Duke+University
