I think back about PPS55 with Professor Jim Vaupel, one of my favorite courses at Duke. One of the things Prof. Vaupel taught me was ‘order of magnitude’ thinking. If you have one-hundred thousand small businesses, which we do in our state, and you have a couple hundred volunteers, how do you make a difference?

The answer is that you try to be really smart and resourceful, and be focused! Do not try to solve every problem, but [rather] the ones that make a big difference.”
