Humans of Duke Sanford

One of our social media ambassadors, Narissa Jimenez-Petchumrus MPP-MEM’22, on how they’re spending the summer:

“I'm really interested in analyzing how social impact enterprises, community land trusts, and cooperatives can be used to build relationships with natural assets, bring about an equitable energy transition, generate community wealth, and build resilience.

I am spending the summer as a Stanback Fellow with the North Carolina Sierra Club. We are working on the End Dirty Fuels Campaign to generate opposition against the recently rescinded Atlantic Coast Pipeline, which would cross black and indigenous census tracts. This is a huge win!

I'm also part of a Duke University Bass Connections Student Research Awards team. We are researching distribution and access to urban greenspace and their impacts on health outcomes for marginalized communities. Back home in Ventura County, CA, I'm also working with some friends to create a community garden with the potential of turning into a CSA (community supported agriculture).” —Narissa Jimenez-Petchumrus, MPP-MEM’22
